Steve Weaver:

Today I am in Indianapolis, Ind. where I am presenting a lecture at 1:30 pm today on “The 1689 Baptist Confession and Its Influence on Early American Missions and Church Planting” at the Baptist, Confessionalism and the Providence of God, 1689-2014 conference. Some have expressed interest in seeing the paper, so I have uploaded it here in PDF format.

There are plans to post audio and video of the conference in the near future. You can check www.1689conference.org for the latest details on media availability.

  1. That’s great.

I just had the confession printed out at Staples a few weeks ago for my family and I to study together. (2 Tim 2:15)

It’s clear from reading it, that knowing and understanding the doctrines in it with the proof texts will help any Christian keep himself from being deceived. (Lk 21:8)

I’m now convinced that the majority of errors and false teachings prevalent in the American churches today would not be there if Christians learned this confession, of which God has stirred up earlier Christians to labor putting it together for our benefit.

BTW: I found this pastor’s PDF copy of the confession excellent. He also provides a student study guide and leader’s guide.
